Experience: 30 years, primarily in preschool and kindergarten.
Education: Multiple Subject Teaching Credential from San Francisco State University, 1987.
It is my joy and privilege to be the kindergarten teacher here at OCS! I know this is my calling, and there is nothing I would rather do than teach these precious children in their first and most crucial year of elementary school. My goal for each student is that s/he would experience a nurturing and friendly environment in which s/he is encouraged to reach the full potential that God has for each one of them, while being grounded in a Biblical world view. Favorite Verse: Ephesians 3:17-19: “I pray that you, being rooted and established in love, may have power, together with all the Lord’s holy people, to grasp how wide and long and high and deep is the love of Christ, and to know this love that surpasses knowledge—that you may be filled to the measure of all the fullness of God.”
Bible: “Purposeful Design.” In this colorful, culturally diverse curriculum, the students go on a journey through the Old and New Testaments, learning all about our powerful, loving Creator and His Son, Jesus Christ, Who came to earth to be Savior and Lord to all who believe in Him.
Language Arts: “Spell to Write and Read”. Students will learn to spell, write and read through the use of phonograms—one or more letters that make one or more sounds. "Kindergarten Beginnings" decodable readers by Bob Jones Publishing.
Math: Math K5 by Bob Jones. Hands-on activities and worksheets introduce concepts such as two and three-dimensional shapes, patterns, numbers 1-100, calendar, time, measurement, and basic addition and subtraction.
Thematic Units: Our weekly themes incorporate the above curriculum areas as well as science, history and art. Examples: Getting to know you, apples, community helpers, pumpkins, farm life, penguins, presidents, seeds and flowers, butterflies, Thanksgiving, Christmas, Valentine’s Day and St. Patrick’s Day.
